Eyal Levi explains a cool method for mixing ghost notes so you can always hear them, no matter how dense your mix is.

No matter how much care you take in micing a snare, the moment you bring heavy guitars into a mix your ghost notes will begin to disappear. If you’re not careful it will sound like the drummer didn’t even play ghost notes!

There are a few different ways that you could approach this, but what’s cool about this method is that you don’t need any new plugins. All the tools you need are right in your DAW.

This video is taken from an 6+ hour long Nail the Mix stream where Eyal Levi mixed the entire song while answering questions from the audience!

Topics Covered:

  • Cymbal bus EQ
  • How to route Pro Tools for maximum efficiency
  • Filtering delays and reverbs
  • Guitar tone layering
  • Controlling synths with a huge low end
  • Dialing a good heavy rhythm tone
  • and much much much much more!
